Fairytale in Inverted Pyramid Style
Instructions:
Select a classic fairytale or even a Disney movie and rewrite it in inverted pyramid format, complete with a compelling lead and three to five supporting paragraphs in descending importance. You can be creative with this assignment and make up some quotes.
This assignment should be at least 250-words in length when complete.
Here is the version of Little Red Riding Hood I wrote as an example:
A hunter saved a young girl and her grandmother, Tuesday, May 25, cutting them free from the belly of the wolf who had eaten them. The girl and her grandmother were dirty but alive, and they quickly filled the wolfs belly with rocks, sewing him back up and causing him to stumble to his death when he awoke.
The wolf, whose brother died last month in a gruesome chimney accident at the Third Little Pigs house, had disguised himself as the young girls grandmother, whom hed eaten in one gulp. The girl had been bringing her grandmother treats, having heard she was ill, and had been delayed by the wolf previously, picking flowers off the path to the cottage. When she arrived, the wolf let her in.
I asked why his ears were so big and why his eyes were so big, Little Red Riding Hood explained. He said, The better to hear you with and the better to see you with.
After asking about his teeth, however, the wolf ate her as well, swallowing her without chewing, a habit common to many breeds of domestic dog as well.
It was dark in there, but at least I was with my gramma, Little Red remarked about her time in the wolfs innards.
Having eaten so much, the wolf passed out, which is how the hunter found him an hour later.
I thought about shooting him, Hunter explained, but I wondered where Gramma was and decided to cut him up. Im glad I did.
After a shower, the three ate a meal of chocolate and Coca-Cola. Hunter has skinned the wolf and gave it to Gramma for a bathmat.
Here’s what I wrote:
In 1607 England, a ship carrying British settlers sailed for North Americain search of gold and other material riches. Among those on board were Captain John Smith and Governor Ratcliffe. They encountered Native American woman Pocahontas which he fell in love with later on, and the chief of the tribe also her father Powhatan. In this view, Native Americans lived in peaceful harmony with nature until European settlers came, bringing guns and ecological destruction.
As hatred grows among the two sides, the meager relationship among the natives and the Europeans deteriorating, Pocahontas becomes attracted to John Smith. The two spend time together, with Pocahontas teaching John to look at the world in a different way, and to not think of people who are different as ‘savages’. After Captain John Smith has thoughtlessly dismissed the ideas of the young Indian woman he loves, Pocahontas asks: “If the savage one is me, how can there be so much you don’t know?”
One night, Pocahontas’ best friend Nakoma catches her sneaking off and informs Kocoum that she has gone. Meanwhile, John sneaks out of the fort, and Ratcliffe orders Thomas to follow him. Pocahontas and John meet in the glade, where both Pocahontas and Grandmother Willow convince John to try talking to Chief Powhatan to resolve the conflict. Even they put in great effort to persuade both sides for peace, Ratcliffe still fired during an encounter and shot John, who was defending Powhatan.
Ratcliffe always wears two pink bow ties on his braids, and a purple blouse, which makes him look very feminine.
Teacher’s feadback:
– Missing dateline.- Lead is about twice as long as it should be. Remember that the lead is only 35 words.- Remember the first paragraph should be about telling the main focus of the story.- Don’t write chronologically, write in descending order of importance. Ask yourself what really happened in the story and what the news would be reporting on.
P.S. Please do some research about inverted pyramid style. I got it wrong so I got only 9 points out of 20.
