J210M2: Describe basic investigative techniques.

Investigative Summary Report

After reading the Leopold-Loeb Case, and doing your own research, use the template and write an investigative summary report from the perspective of an Investigator of this crime describing the basic investigative techniques utilized in the case. The case can be found in the Learning Resources page in this Module. Your report should address all of the following:

1. First, answer who, what, where, when, why and how from reading the case.
2. How was the victim, Bobby Frank, killed and with what type of weapon?
3. What would be the primary characteristics of this type of wound?
4. The investigators linked key evidence from this crime scene to the original source, what was the source, and how valuable was that source of information in connecting one of the defendants to the crime scene?
5. How would you categorize the motive for the killing in this case?
6. What type of homicide was this case, Leopold-Loeb, compared to the types that were learned in the chapter readings?
7. Did this case follow the normal investigative procedures, if so how?

Minimum Submission Requirements

• Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
• Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
• Your submission should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
• Your writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.
• A separate page at the end of your submission should contain a list of references, in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
• Be sure to cite both in-text and reference list citations where appropriate and reference all sources. Your sources and content should follow proper APA citation style. Review the writing resources for APA formatting and citation found in Academic Tools. Additional writing resources can be found within the Academic Success Center.
• Your submission should:
  • be double-spaced;
  • be typed in Times New Roman, 12 -point font;
  • include correct citations
  • be written in Standard English with no spelling or punctuation errors; and
  • include correct references at the bottom of the last page.

If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
