Addictions Treatment Research Paper

Your paper should focus on a treatment for addictions (see directions in Week 3 for list of 10 treatments that you can choose from). Your paper should be at least 1,200 words and include at least 4 references with in-text citations.

Here is the outline that you need to use for your paper:

1. Title Page
2. Introduction – 1-2 Paragraphs; introduce intervention and discuss need it addresses
3. Development & Theoretical Underpinnings – 1 page; discuss development of the intervention, including who developed it and from which theoretical paradigm.
4. Components/Implementation – 1-2 pages; describe the intervention itself including its primary components and details about how it is implemented.
5. Efficacy – 1-3 pages; what do we know about the efficacy of this intervention with different types of addictive disorders, populations, and settings?
6. Conclusion – 1-3 paragraphs wrapping things up.
7. References – list all of the references you have cited in the text of your paper, in alphabetical order, on a separate page.

Remember that this is a class about addictions. Your paper should focus on a treatment for addictions. I have taught this class several times before. Often students who choose to write about CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy), SFT (Solution-Focused Therapy), or Family Therapy end up writing papers that do not focus on treatment of addictions. Treatments like CBT and SFT are used to treat lots of different problems (e.g. depression, anxiety). However, this is not a class about treating depression and anxiety. This is a class about addictions. Make sure that you write about how the intervention is used to treat addictions throughout your paper. Every section should refer to treatment of addictions. If you have chosen to write about Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, or one of the other interventions that is more commonly used to treat addictions then this will not be as much of an issue for you.
