For example, the interquartile range is typically used in situations where the central tendency is measured by the median; this applies to data with extreme scores, undetermine values, and nominal scales of measurement (Gravetter et al., 2021). Additionally, the interquartile range can be useful in samples where there are a few extreme low and high scores that could make a standard range score useless.The Interquartile range is found by measuring the distance between the highest score or upper real limit of the first 25% of the data, known as the first quartile, and the lower real limit of the third quartile, which contains the top 25% of the data (Gravetter et al., 2021).
