Essay Prompt:
The second essay assignment asked you tocombine course texts and outside texts to make an argument about a real worldissue. This assignment asks you to continue to develop that skill, but todeepen it by focusing on outside research.
Process Essay 3 and Process Essay 4 arerelated assignments. In Process Essay 3, you will identify a specific real worldproblem that is raised in one of the texts you read for Unit 3. You will needto be able to provide a focus to the problem. (For example, if you want toaddress the problem of homelessness, you will need to narrow your focus tohomelessness of a specific population, like military veterans.) In ProcessEssay 4, you will revise Process Essay 3 and expand it to include awell-reasoned solution to the problem.
Process Essay 3 should answer the followingquestions:
What is the broad issue raised in the literarytext?
How can you define the issue as a problemthat needs to be addressed?
What evidence is there to prove that this isa real problem?
Who does the problem impact?
What are the ethical issues related to theproblem?
Why do you care about this problem?
Why should your readers care about thisproblem?
Essay Requirements:
A minimum of five double-spaced pages
A total of four texts:
o One literarytext from Unit 3
o Threeoutside sources, two of which must be scholarly.
Criteria for a successful essay include:
A title that captures the essence of youressay
Well-developed introduction
Clear thesis statement in the introduction
Well-developed support for your argument(weave in quotes and analyze them)
Logical organization with topic sentences andtransitions
Conclusion that adds a final thought
Few sentence-level errors (grammar, spelling)
MLA citation
