PTSD Military

Based on your knowledge from the readings as well as the information presented in the video lecture, comment on the emotional struggles of military personnel that develop PTSD. What do you think about Dr. Tick’s unique (and some would say controversial) views with regard to what we now call moral injury of war, the training of soldiers, and the purposes for which they are deployed? It is ok here to respectfully disagree with his perspectives as long as everyone here respects each other’s viewpoints. Many counselors and other mental health professionals are in sympathy with what he says here, some in forensic and military contexts do sometimes take issues with some of what he says.

From the readings, how has our understanding of the trauma response following combat exposure evolved since WWII? What are some unique similarities/differences of the trauma response secondary to combat exposure versus other types of trauma exposure? What recommendations would you suggest to address the needs of military personnel post deployment? What would need to happen in order to implement these suggestions? What are significant barriers?
