Miss Jones, a third grade teacher at Pine Cone Elementary School has decided to bake some treats for her third grade class end-of-the-year party. She has 26 students in her class. In your thread give your favorite recipe (or find 1 that sounds good) for brownies, cookies, or a similar treat. Your recipe must include at least 6 ingredients no boxed mixes allowed. Next, tell how much of each ingredient Miss Jones will need if she multiplies your recipe by 2 1/2. Then, find out how much the new amount of each ingredient costs at your favorite grocery store. You are allowed to shop online.

Example: If the recipe calls for 3/4 cup of walnuts, she will need 2 1/2 times 3/4 cup or 1 7/8 cups of walnuts. Looking at a famous online shopping site. Miss Jones sees that she can buy a 16oz bag of Walnuts that contains 4 cups for $7.17. She will need only about 2 cups so she figures the cost of the walnuts to be about $3.50.

In the same way, estimate the cost of each ingredient, find the total cost of making the treat, and tell how much that would cost per student.

Miss Jones is concerned that some of her students may have allergies or need gluten free treats. Suggest 2 items that Miss Jones could allow those students to choose from.

Finally, answer these questions: Have you ever actually tried your treat? On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this recipe? (Celery is rated as 1, the best dessert you ever ate rated as 10.).
