– Each claim must be supported by examples from the primary source and support from secondary sources. I.E. – If you are writing about the setting, you might indicate that Hemingway emphasizes the setting. Then, you would give an example from the primary text. (Hemingway focus on the symbol of the white elephant begins with the title of the short story “Hills Like White Elephants” (75)   You would follow up your example by finding and citing a secondary source which supports your claim and comments on its significance.  (The article “Hemingway Hills: Symbolism in Hills Like White Elephants” reveals that the white elephant like the unborn child is creates a paradox (Weeks 77).)    Continue to point it out and cite it from the text; then support it with a secondary source.

-Must be thesis controlled

-Must be majority paraphrase. NO MORE than 10% quotes. Put things in your own words and cite the paraphrase just as the quote.
