Hello Class,

for this weeks assignment, I have decided to evaluate an article titled Coronavirus vaccination: Why is getting your second dose of COVID vaccine important? from the Entertainment Times Newspaper extracted from TimesofIndia.com.

As put on the paper by the author, the second vaccine is more important of the two vaccines, and until one receives the two doses, they are not fully protected from the Virus (Times of India). Despite receiving the first dose, it is also vital to receive the second dose to be on the safer side. The doses can be taken after 4-6 weeks in the cases of Covexin, and for Coavshiled, the doses can be taken after a 12-week gap.

In the first three-quarters of the article, the author focuses on proving his point on the importance of all two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. For instance, he argues that primary COVID vaccines have to be administered in two doses. Despite receiving the first vaccine’s dose, one has to take the second shot at all costs to ensure they are entirely immune from the Covid-19 Virus (Times of India). Besides lowering one’s chance of getting infected with the Virus, being fully vaccinated by getting the second shot ensures one has mild to no symptoms even when one is infected with the Covid-19 Virus.

The audiences for this piece of the article are all categories of people, both the old and the young. This is because they are all prone to Covid-19; hence have to know the importance of the second jab to be on the safer side, especially during this time of the pandemic (Times of India). The argument by the author is very valid and credible. This is because, as explained, it is true that getting only one dosage of the Covid-19 Virus vaccine provides partial impunity, therefore, meaning that one is still at risk of getting infected with the Virus. 

Also, the article has been able to appeal to Logos, Ethos, and Pathos. For the logos, the author has been able to persuade the readers by use of valid reasoning on why the second jab of the Covid-19 vaccine is important. Once one is fully vaccinated by getting the second vaccination, one can host indoor gatherings and avoid wearing masks as they are safe from the Virus. On the Ethos, the author has been able to appeal to ethics, subsequently persuading the credibility of the information on paper. The information is from a reliable source and is also backed by known and famous health organizations, for instance, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Lastly, on the Pathos, the author has appealed to the readers’ emotions by coming up with an emotional response. He shows the importance of both the young and old getting the second vaccination against Covid-19.

In conclusion, the author’s stance on being proactive to ensure that everybody is safe from the Covid-19 pandemic can be seen through his ability to persuade and convince the readers on the effectiveness of the second shot of the vaccine to enable one to be fully vaccinated. He ensures that the reader fully understands the consequences of this global pandemic and the need for the second vaccination.
