– Seriousness of the presenting problem:
– Clients reporting higherinitial distress take more sessions to reach clinically significant improvementthan clients reporting lower levels of distress.
– Research suggests thatthe largest gains in improvement occur early in treatment, but that take seriouslydisturbed individuals benefit from longer term treatment.
– Clients who are inbetter shape at the onset of treatment seem to improve the most in the least amount oftime, & with the best long-term results.
– Another factor is who initiated the counselling session (counsellor or client):
counsellor-initiated counselling may result in resistance or reluctance from the client thus affective the time it takes to achieve success.
Also, It is the clients perspective that is more strongly relatedto counseling success than the counselors perspective.
– The counselling’s physical environment may influence success as well.
– Lastly, the counselling needs to build trust, and have empathy in order to drop the walls of the client to promote success.
