Inweek 3, we discussed self talk and how it can positively and or negativelyaffect your outlook. This week we focuson the four levels of negative self talk and then we will craft affirmationsthat will change them from a negative to a positive
First,there are four levels of self talk:
1. Negative Resignation
2. Recognition
3. Vow
4. Replacement Pictures
FourLevels of Self Talk
NegativeResignation
Thisis the lowest level of self talk and this occurs when you resign yourself tofailure based on either your own negative self talk or by listening to otherswho tell you that you cannot be successful.
Recognition
Thisis the second level of self talk.
Thisis the shoulda, coulda, woulda. This is when you recognize that you havea problem but you dont do anything about it.
Vow
A vowis very much like a promise to yourself which is a good thing in that is helpsto change ones behavior. However, a vowis missing a replacement picture. Remember as humans, we think in pictures and the stronger the picturethe better, because we move towards the strongest picture. Thus, if one vows tostop smoking, then it needs to be accompanied with a replacement picture ofwhat replaces the smoking such as exercise or meditation. If there is no replacement picture to help tochange the behavior, then the old behavior will continue.
ReplacementPictures
This is thefourth level of self talk and in this level, you have a very clear picture ofthe future. This is all about the nexttime. When engaging in this type ofself talk, you will usually say, The next time, I ___________, I intend to_________. In this scenario, you arecreating a picture for what the future will look like. This is important because it replaces thepicture of the mistake or issue you are attempting to correct and insteadpresents a picture of what the future will look like.
