For this week’s discussion, respond to the following:

Why is it important for the FTC to govern advertising? Provide at least 2 points to support your answer.

Hello Classmates,

The FTC protect consumers of any misleading advertising.   It is important for the FTC to govern advertising because a lot of what we see can be and is misinterpreted.  Consumers can be deceived by the ads we see on television or with promotional items in a store.  If they omit information or mislead you in thinking that something is beneficial to you when they are deceiving you, the company can be fined or sued for providing false or misleading information to consumers.  When I see a commercial advertising their beauty products, they use models who are already beautiful to get to an audience.  I can see the elders and the young falling victims of advertising fraud.  They make you think that if it works for them, it can also work for you.  They add things out of proportion to make you think that its a great product and you are getting a great deal.  The buy one, get one free advertising is also an example.  You are not always getting a good deal.  You must know the market and do your own math to figure out if it is a good deal.  Take the BYGO example, sometimes it is not worth it in the amount of quantity or ounces that you are getting.  It may seem good because its packaged pretty, and you think you are getting more but in reality, you are getting ripped off in the quantity amounts.
