Guidelines:

In 3-5 pages (Times New Roman Font size 12, double spaced), answer the questions bellow by analyzing the readings we have covered in class so far. Make sure to critically reflect on the theories of conflict presented in the course. You have one week to respond to the questions in essay form, or by answering each one separately. You are not required to do any outside research in order to complete this assignment. The goal is to test your knowledge and understanding of the material we have covered in class in our readings.

Questions:

What is terrorism? How do different authors define, terrorism – and what are some of the main elements, or variables that they highlight in their definition? At the same time, how has the definition of terrorism evolved over hte past sevreal centuries – and what are some key events that have contributed to the change, or the evolution of the definition? Finally, what are some of the types of terrorist organizations found in the world today – keep in mind the motivations, tactics and strategies when answering this question (feel free to create a table, or organize your response is another way that makes sense to you – essentially, using our readings, what framework do you propose we use to classify the various terrorist groups).
