Research paper about Madam C.J. Walker contributions to the world

            Madam C.J. Walker is a person we need to consistently recognize.  Born in 1867, and growing up an orphan in the South, she, from a young age, had an uphill climb to opportunity, equality, and prosperity, but somehow, she did it.  Through hard work, sheer will, and a never say die attitude she became the first African-American woman to become a millionaire in the United States.  She is an important figure not just for the wealthy to emulate, but for the less fortunate, urban students who desperately need a role model like her to inspire them.  But how did she make this fortune?  What specific types of hardships did she go through before she became a success.  And, perhaps more importantly, what types of hardships and backlash did she incur once she obtained her fortune.

            My paper plans to investigate the life of C.J. Walker (born Sarah Breedlove) in order to investigate the hardships she endured while growing up, throughout her adolescence, and her adult life.  I plan on using Primary and Secondary sources in order to uncover the realities and challenges she occurred in her lifetime.  What drove her to her success?  Growing up in the South in the time right after the American Civil War could not have been easy for an orphan African-American Woman, yet somehow she not only survived, but she also thrived.  I want to try to investigate what it was that drove her.  Teaching underprivileged students in an urban school district is a challenge as a privileged, white teacher for me, as I am sure it is for a lot of other teachers.  This research is important in order to show our students that they too, just like Madam Walker, have choices, have opportunities, and can be anything they want to be.  Learning more about such an inspirational woman and implementing that into lesson plans throughout all age groups and knowledge levels is important in creating a sense of community and family in a classroom, especially one where nobody looks the same and we all have our individual stories and backgrounds.”

There needs to be a bibliography and footnotes that are not included in the 15 pages.  It has to be Chicago Style.
