What you need to do is write approximately a paragraph about each story focusing on your thoughts, observations, questions, etc. A journal is not a summary of the story, but rather a collection of information that will be important to you when analyzing the story as a piece of literature. You can include whatever aspects you feel are most important, but some suggestions would be: theme, setting, symbolism, foreshadowing, plot, protagonist, antagonist, round vs. flat characters, etc. Also, try to think outside the box and find each stories connections to the theme of our course. Feel free to compare and contrast to other stories we’ve read, and to include your opinion! There will be stories that you like, and those that you don’t.
It is necessary to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, as the standard course rubric will be used. Along with the conventions of your writing, you will be graded on the content and effort of your journal.
