Get it written →Most public opinion polls show the American public to favor and trust local governments to do a good job more so than either the federal or state governments. In this article, Schneider, Jacoby, and Lewis examine specifically which policy areas the public prefers which level of government to be responsible for.
Discuss their findings. Is there variation in public attitude about which level of government should take the lead in dealing with various policy issues and, if so, what are those variations?
Do these attitudes seem to correspond with which level actually is responsible for each policy area, or are there significant variations between what the public prefers and actual intergovernmental policymaking?
What do you believe to be the implications of these findings for intergovernmental policy and policymaking in the United States?
