Overcoming Cultural Barriers in Business
Designing and Delivering an Effective Presentation
Using Persuasive Communication in Business…
- Select a business topic about which you are passionate, and would like to persuade others to either understand, believe, or agree with you about.
-
Your topic can be about any business topic, but please be respectful of others.
- Using PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slides or a similar product, prepare a 3 – 5 slide presentation regarding your topic, establishing your best arguments used to convince an audience. Upload your document to D2L by the due date. When developing slides, be sure to use the guidelines discussed for slides provided in class, by your textbook, or both. Note that we will be using TurnitIn for the slides you submit, so make sure your slides are yours, and are correctly cited.
- Video yourself using PitchVantage, and deliver your presentation using the slides you developed to guide your presentation. Remember the feedback you received in earlier presentations, and refer to the rubric for presentations. Additionally, note the 10 specifics I will be looking for below. Your presentation video must also be turned in by the due date
- LEAVE YOUR FINAL VERSION ON PITCHVANTAGE- DO NOT UPLOAD OR EMAIL IT TO ME. I WILL GRADE IT ON PITCHVANTAGE.
- The total length of the presentation is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 minutes (one minute per slide, give or take a little).
Some specific areas I will be looking for your presentation to include:
1. Did the presenter begin with an overview of the presentation’s main points or arguments? For example:
“I believe in ethical decision making in business for these 3 reasons: #1: it generates and sustains trust; #2: it demonstrates respect, fairness and responsibility; and #3 it is consistent with good citizenship. I will now unpack these reasons with you and encourage you to pursue a professional career that refuses to ethically compromise.”
2. Was the presentation professional and well organized, like a business message?
3. Did the presenter address the topic(s) logically?
4. Did the presenter use supporting evidence for the chosen topic?
5. Is the presenter appropriately dressed? Business casual is expected, unless your topic requires a different outfit to make a point.
6. Was the presenter is articulate, confident, and energetic?
7. Did the presenter have appropriate eye contact, delivery pace, and elocution?
8. Did the student present legible materials visible to the audience (PowerPoint)?
9. Were the presenter’s materials relevant to the topic?
10. Were the presenter’s materials in a logical sequence?
