My Post in week 2 as the instructions has mentioned is the following: “Nurses in the daily activities go through different experiences in offering services to their patients. In my daily observations, I chose to present my theory on the obstetric part of my nursing observations. Each nurse in the delivery wing is given specific tasks to help in the delivery process (Abd Elhamid et al., 2013). As a nurse in delivery units, I have observed that women in labor deliveries push effectively when accompanied by family members or their husbands to motivate them in the pushing exercise. This strategy ensures the patient delivering is in the presence of her support system, gains the support she needs, and makes her feel confident and motivated in having the baby. This is also enhanced when two nurses or more present in the delivery room to give the mother support and encouragement to persevere the pain and gain strength in the process. (Lunda et al., 2018).
During the covid-19 pandemic, the number of people allowed to delivery rooms was reduced to avoid the spread of the virus during contact with the people in the room. This meant that the number of people in the rooms was reduced to a single person to support the patient in delivering. Sometimes the people were not allowed to enter the room, and one nurse was permitted (Kotlar et al., 2021). This reduced the motivations offered to the patient to encourage her in the pushing process. Although in some cases, the pushes performed by the patient were influential in the labor cases, in most times, the pushes were intermittently ineffective (Gungor & Beji, 2007). From these observations, I realized that the presence of support systems in delivery rooms increased the motivation of most delivery patients, enabling the process to be smooth and encouraging.
