Domestic violence is a serious danger to people across the United States. In their lifetime, one third of women and one fourth of men will experience this form of violence (Domestic Violence Statistics ). The National Domestic Violence Hotline defines domestic violence as a partners pattern of behaviors within an intimate relationship used to maintain power and control over the other partner (Understand Relationship Abuse). This violence increases suicide attempts from the three percent of the average population to twenty-three percent in victims of domestic violence (MHA).
Domestic Violence and Mindset:

The mindset of victims of domestic violence is believing that they arent worth enough for their significant other, for their family, or even society. The victims think that nobody cares for them because their abuser makes it seem they are worthless. The victims have gone through not only physical, but emotional abuse that has affected the way they think and view things in society. They believe that no one is on their side, which makes them afraid to speak up to get the help they need. Their partner has implanted in their head that if they go seeking help, no one will believe them, or they will have to face consequences with their partner. It takes a lot of courage for the victim to get help, sometimes the victims dont even get the help they need.

Kelly Sundbergs novel, Goodbye, Sweet Girl is a true story following the life of Kelly who is a survivor of domestic violence. Growing up, she didnt have the proper parental guidance that she should have had which resulted in her life becoming a constant reflection of her own choices. She sought affection and attention from men who just could not provide that for her until she met Caleb. He was the man that Kelly fell in love with who became her husband and the father of their child. However, Caleb wasnt who he turned out to be and completely broke Kelly, dragging her to the world of emotional and physical pain.
