Again, as with the first paper, youlllocate one (1) of the followinglong-form articles in our text (i.e., notthe one you used for Paper 1), but this time youll analyze it according to the guidelines below:

        Aswith a summary, you will continue exercising the skills of brevity and economy,reducing lengthy passages where the main point may be important but the detailsare not.  This is your task:

        Identify the author, source, and article title (i.e., do so early on and grammatically, noting,too, the original publication sourcee.g., Barbara Ehrenreichs Serving in Florida, from her2001 book, Nickel and Dimed, detailshow she found working a low-wage job to be . . .).

        Aptlyand thoroughly encapsulate the reasons and evidence supporting the claim (not the examples and details).

        Use appropriate, short quotations to show theauthors stancewhether neutral,critical, passionatetowards the topic (i.e., give a taste for authorsexceptional phrases, words only they could devisee.g., with M. Perrys roadrage description in the readily available online article Bumper-StickerBravado, he characterizes the kid who cuts him off in traffic as a lump ofgristle with a pulseas good a specimen of showing a writers voice as I canimagine).  Use attribution with direct and indirect passages, acknowledgingthe sources specific pointse.g., One linguist cites criticism for textingscreation of a sort of textese and slanguage (Crystal 899). 

        YourAnalysis should clock in at a mere 500- to 600-words.

        Inyour Analysis, and unlike the Summary, you doeditorialize but only after covering the bases within your paper with theitems above.  Once youve done so, give us the overall impression the essay makes on you andwhich passages create that impression; tellus if youre persuaded by the article.

   Include effective transitions between paragraphs.

• Analysis will effectively anticipate objections ORP might have and will appropriately respond to themagain, be mindful, in this regard, of your ethos.
• Be sure youve proofread, looking particularly for those mistakes that a spell-checker doesn’t catch.  Remember also that the best grammar checkers are right only 80% of the time.
