Identify a research subject:

You must write a description of you subject that includes the following:

Some demographic information of the manager that you deem relevant

Tenure as manager

Number of subordinates

Their place in the organizational hierarchy (to whom do they answer)

Describe the organization:

A description of the organization (the context of management) including its principal functions and services it provides.

physical description of the organization

Any written artifacts that illuminate the mission and values of the organization

Conduct the Interview:

Be sure to have some way of recording your information you can record digitally or take notes. Be sure that you have chosen an appropriate time and place.

An in-person interview is the most appropriate method.

Extract Themes:

Review the subjects responses and attempt to identify and extract themes related to the principal functions of management. How does the subject describe her/his work?

Think in terms of planning, organizing, coordinating and controlling among others.

Make Connections

Go back to the text and make connections between the text and the responses. What do the theories tell you? Align the responses with the vocabulary of management.

Present Your Findings

Write a report of your findings that has all of the elements described above
