Discussion post- Covid 19

I chose mental health of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic due to nurses having to deal with personal stressors of the virus and the safety of the nurse, patient and families. Nurses had to find a way to adjust to the rapid changes in the nursing practice due to the pandemic. This included wearing personal protective equipment, screening, isolation, testing, contact tracing and vaccination. No one was allowed into the hospital if they presented with symptoms associated with the disease. Visitation protocols also shifted throughout the pandemic to decrease the chance of transmission. Leaders of the organization always listened to their staff and gave multiple opportunities to voice their concerns. For example, there were work from home opportunities, better communication, safety in place and virtual team meetings. This created a strong and supportive approach to support individuals during the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, nurses stepped up in their fields to support their patients and give them the best care possible (Velji & Brannon, 2021). Supporting the nurses is important to their mental health and giving individuals the best care possible.
