a) pick a contemporary ethical issue,

-this section should clearly lay out how you feel about the issue and why. This should be the largest, most involved section of the paper.
c) compare your position to at least two of the theories we have explored.
-this section should compare your reasoning to two of the theories weve learned about. Do you borrow from any of the theories? Did any of them provide useful tools? Do you agree or disagree with their conclusions? What explains the difference?
Please note that there are three clearly identified components to this paper (a, b and c). Final papers must include all three elements.
Papers must be proofread, spell-checked, and double-spaced. Students must cite all sources including course materials using APA format. As per school policy, paper rewrites and extensions are only permitted in exceptional circumstances and when the instructor has been notified in advance of the assignment due date.
Assignment Advice:
The goal of the assignment is to get you to use your own ethical judgement. So, pick an issue that is interesting to you. In my opinion, choosing a good issue is the most important part. Dont pick something boring or obvious just because youre in a rush to get started. Take your time and pick something you genuinely want to spend some time thinking about.
Make sure you have a clear summary of the issue. Using real world examples can be helpful. In particular, make sure you clearly explain why the issue is ethically problematic. Dont assume your reader will see what you see explain very explicitly what it is about this issue that makes it a moral dilemma and try to explain both sides of the issue.
The heart of the paper is a personal exploration of how you, as an ethical justice professional, feel about the issue. Be creative here, and be honest. Use the writing process as a way to think through and refine your own position. That said, it is also important to be rigorous in your reasoning. It is not enough to say how you feel, you need to explain why you feel that way. Stating your gut reaction is not enough I need to see the reasons that support that reaction.
Finally, you will compare your reasoning to two of the theories we looked at. The idea here is to explore similarities and differences between your thinking and the theories. You want to show where your thinking departs from theirs, and why. This is another way to explore why you feel the way that you do.
Ultimately, the goal of the paper is to show that you can engage in your own personal ethical analysis in a way that is informed by the theories we have covered.
If you are unsure about any part of your paper at any stage in the writing process, please get in touch and lets talk it through. This will inevitably produce a better paper, and a better grade.
