Breathing ExercisesMany people in the world today experience various health care issues that require treatment plans. Complementary treatment is a technique in which people use along with conventional treatments and medicine. Medical practitioners recommend these treatments to help improve the patient’s outcome. Breathing exercises are a complementary treatment that has been used widely to help deal with respiratory issues (Vagedes et al., 2021). It involves using breath control to reduce the symptoms of conditions such as bronchial asthma, which is well-known for using breathing exercises. For instance, the Buteyko breathing exercise has proven to offer more significant results in asthmatic patients when it comes to reducing the symptoms that express themselves in the patient.
The use of breathing exercises has various benefits in the patients. One of the essential benefits is the regulation of breathing. It is helpful in instances where one is hyperventilating or experiencing shortness of breath. It also helps with asthma and anxiety. Breathing exercises create a feeling of calm and relaxation, which helps reduce hyperventilation and symptoms of asthma (Vagedes et al., 2020). However, despite the benefits of breathing exercises, the treatment cannot be used as an alternative to conventional treatments. The treatment poses a risk to patients with heart diseases, hypertension, epilepsy, and any other serious medical concerns (Santino et al., 2020). Taking of deep breaths becomes harmful to a patient because of the imbalance of oxygen and carbon dioxide when breathing too deeply. An imbalance causes the body to strain further which is harmful to patients with these conditions. For patients to access breathing exercises, medical practitioners guide patients to use the breathing exercise routines and then do it individually when alone (Santino et al., 2020). The treatment is therefore readily available. It is of little or no cost because it is more of an activity that one does individually once directed by a practitioner. Yuce & Taci (2020) studied the pranayama breathing exercise and its effectiveness in asthma patients. The study explained that patients who practiced the pranayama form of training could learn control while dealing with asthma episodes (Yuce & Taci, 2020). The studies on breathing exercises reveal great effectiveness in patients, and yes, I will highly recommend it for patients to use. It is effective in patients of all ages and most suitable for patients with respiratory issues or symptoms that require breath control.
