“Sex: From Beginning to End”
The following link is to the Are We Alone radio show (Monday 05 January 2009) called “Sex: From Beginning to End”. You may choose the first segment of this show called “Robots & Roses” for this critique.
You will have to scroll down the page at the following website to find the links for the “Sex: From Beginning to End” MP3:

Here is the show description for the first segment “Robots & Roses” for which you may do your IAA critique:
“We all know how sex begins: a dimly lit room, a come-hither smile, and a surfeit of parasol-shaded cocktails. But long before all that, the gentle currents of the ancient seafloor set the mood. It was there, 570 million years ago, that two ropy sea creatures found each other and changed the course of evolution.”

For your Mod 3 IAA critique, read the Affect in Scientists Disciplinary Practices section, pages 192 195 of Jaber & Hammer (2016). The whole article is provided in case you want to read more than that section. (Don’t forget that Microsoft Edge (and some other software/apps) can read this section to you.)
Then, revisit your own and some classmates posts from the Mod 2 IAA discussion board area. In your Mod 3 IAA critique, while keeping these Mod 2 IAA posts and the article section in mind, write a critique that synthesizes both. Use the critique rubric in our syllabus to help you develop and self-assess your critique. A good guiding question while writing this critique is, “What does it mean to “Feel like a scientist?”

Module 4:
*300 words*
For your Mod 4 IAA critique, there is new information for you to consider along with what you have read and written in the IAA discussion boards of previous modules. The new information is a 9-minute video, How Our Brains Feel Emotion. In this video, neuroscientist, Antonio Damasio, explains a bit about his theory of emotion. Although you dont have to write about it, take note of how he explains the evolutionary importance of emotions and how the nervous and endocrine (blood carried hormone) systems are involved. He also explains what a feeling is and how it specifically feeling an emotion is different from having an emotion.
Sticking with the idea that different roles/professions (e.g., scientist), activities (e.g., being engaged in the scientific inquiry), and knowledge construction can be associated with feelings and emotion, briefly summarize what you thought was most interesting and/or meaningful from the video. Then, for the rest of your critique (remembering the video content and what youve read and written in previous IAA discussion areas), write about what your current or aspired profession feels like when one is practicing the activities specific to that profession. Include at least a short mention that describes what similarities and/or differences there in that profession compared to what you think it means to feel like a scientist.
