First you have to give a reasonable explanation of why he was dead or was never born. Then talk about all the things he did which would not happen BUT always remember someone else would be doing many of the things he did. For example someone would write the Declaration of Independence since it was decided we needed one. Ben Franklin helped Jefferson. Maybe without Jefferson, Franklin would have written the Declaration or someone else in the Continental Congress. In 1800 someone in the Democratic-Republican Party would be elected President since John Adams and the Federalist were not popular. You can change that and get Adams re-elected for a second term in 1800, explain how, or you could find someone else in the Dem-Rep Party to run. Explain why and how Adams wins a second term or find someone like, perhaps, James Madison to become President 8 years earlier than he did. Remember that no one is indispensable if you are not there someone else would replace you. Some people believe certain people are so unique that if they did not exist history would be totally different. Think Hitler, for example. Others say Hitler was a product of his times and someone like him would rise to power if Hitler never existed. No right answer here but in the case of Jefferson someone would have to write the Declaration. Of course, it would be a different document, explain how different, but it would still be created and someone will be elected President in 1800, just no Jefferson. You take it from there if that someone would do things different than Jefferson. What you say is not right or wrong since it never happened. You get to speculate what that difference would be.
