Although different models can be used for planning health promotion interventions, they have commonalities in their basic constructs.
Using the readings for this week, the South University Online Library, and the Internet, select two public health planning models and compare and contrast their approaches to addressing health problems in communities.
Use the following questions to guide your discussion:
What are the two models you have selected and why? Briefly describe each model in 1–2 paragraphs.
What steps or components do the two models have in common? In what way are they different?
How might each chosen theory or model be used to address a health issue in a community?
Support your statements with appropriate examples from scholarly references.

Your response should clarify your understanding of the topic. It should be your own, original, and free from plagiarism. Follow the APA format for writing style, spelling and grammar, and citation of sources.

Course Project Overview – Working Ahead
For your course project, you will prepare a complete program plan that addresses a public health issue in a specific population. You will not need to implement the intervention or conduct the evaluation. The plan will be based in the real world and would therefore draw on real data and other information gathered in the needs assessment and planning processes.
Complete the following:
In Week 1, you will select a health issue as the focus for your course project. In addition, you will describe the health issue, including a brief background of the problem and the populations or groups most affected. You will write a memo of intent to justify addressing the health issue and target population.
In Week 2, you will identify and describe the behavioral and environmental risk factors related to the health issue. You will also compare the risk factors based on importance and changeability.
Then in Week 3, you will select one or two behavioral risk factors for in-depth analysis. You will identify and describe predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors for each behavioral risk. In addition, you will examine three settings that could be used to approach the health behavior. In Week 3 you will submit the work through this part of the project for grading.
In Week 4, you will recommend strategies that can be used to address each factor (predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling) and prepare an assessment of community resources and community capacity for change.
In Week 5, you will compare and contrast the strategies you recommended in Week 4 to evidence-based practices. In addition, you will describe and explain the appropriate working group for the implementation of the proposed strategies. Finally, you will compile all the previous components of this project and incorporate them into a final paper.

1. Identifying the health issue
2. Completing a needs assessment
3. Setting goals and objectives
4. Developing intervention(s)
5. Implementing intervention(s)
6. Completing an audit or evaluation
You will also examine different theories and planning models and complete a paper comparing and contrasting the theories. When studying the theories, planning models, and frameworks, be sure to consider the following: Will health status change? Can theories and principles related to health and illness be understood? In addition, initiation and maintenance of a behavior change is difficult, therefore, if you want to affect change permanently, how can the individual or community be motivated and want to change?
This week you will be introduced to the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for health promotion planning and evaluation. The eight phases or steps of the model will be explored and you will examine how the model is used. The Multilevel Approach to Community Health (MATCH) will also be introduced.
