WALL STREET JOURNAL Extra Credit Assignment 1
This extra credit assignment is potentially worth 30 points divided into two steps as discussed below. The purpose is to encourage students to read about business everyday and discuss important issues in the business world. Full points are dependent on a sufficient number of students participating in the assignment. To access the assignment, please go to the discussion board in Blackboard. Step one is due by Friday, June 4. However, please post before that if you can. Discussion responses on posts will be accepted until Sunday, June 13, 11 pm.
Step 1 Posting Article (20 points):
Choose a current article (no more than 1 week old) from the Wall Street Journal. Complete the following items:
- Summarize the article tell the main points of what is happening and why it is important. (8 points.)
- Relate this article to something we have covered in the class textbook. (7 pts.)
- Explain why you picked this particular article. (4 pts.)
- Was there anything in the article that you didnt understand or wanted more information about? (1 pt.)
Your discussion post will likely be at least two paragraphs. To post your assignment, click on the Extra Credit Discussion Board tab. Then click on “Create a Thread” and then post your assignment.
Step 2 responding to other posts (up to 10 points possible):
To be eligible for these points, you must first complete step 1 (post an article summary). Then for each response to others posts, you will receive up to 2 points each for up to five different response posts. Each post must be for a different article. These posts must be substantive (at least one paragraph) and contain dialogue that furthers the conversation. Simply agreeing with the post is not sufficient. Your response must add new insights, ideas, and/or your reasoning for agreeing or disagreeing with the post. Clearly, at least five additional posts must be available to receive the full ten response points
