The Gospel Message
COLLAPSE
1. What are various ways the gospel is perceived in our culture?
The gospel of Christ has been perceived in various ways. Some believe it is a great story about a good man, who did good deeds. Some also believe its a get-out-of-jail-free card. In other words, If I acknowledge the name of Jesus, I will get the benefits, without the commitment.
Others say, it may have been a sacred book written many years ago, but it has been tainted by white people, who oppress and control groups of minorities. Some are offended by the erroneous images that have been portrayed as the physical image of Jesus, and how scriptures were
used to keep, certain people, in bondage. Yet for the believer, we believe it to be the inherent word of God. Gods story and plan for the
redemption of mankind.
2. What are some specific moral reasons people may reject the gospel message?
Society has become a place of convenience. People do not want to be uncomfortable or inconvenienced. Adhering to the moral standards of
the gospel would mean people would have to change. Unfortunately, we have become a society where success is measured by possessions
and positions. When non-believers dont see what they deem as success happening in the lives of the believer it gives them pause. The bible
says in Mark 8:36, For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?.
3. What are some specific emotional reasons people may reject the gospel?
Many have lost their lives and the lives of loved ones due to natural disasters, pandemics, and physical diseases. The bible speaks of battles where the Lord tells Israel to attack a nation, and kill everything including the animals and children. How could a loving God say this? How
could he allow such tragic events to take place? Why would he allow good people to die? Why would he let this happen to me? Life is not without challenges. Neither is accepting the gift of salvation. Salvation is not what we define it to be, but what God defines it to be (Hindson, 2017).
4. What are some specific, intellectual reasons people may reject the gospel message?
When it comes to people rejecting the gospel because of intellectual reasons, people doubt what is not considered to be tangible. The gospel of Christ doesnt make sense to them. Spiritual things cannot be defined by natural limitations. Christ shows us how limitless the power of God can be in the flesh. To the non-believer, the gospel does not make sense. For the word of God is folly to those who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved, it is the power of God (1 Cor 1:18 ESV).
5. What can Christians do to address these objections and better communicate the gospel message?
As believers, we are to consider ourselves to be living epistles. We are to live lives that reflect our confession. Educating ourselves in the word of God, other cultures, and faiths can be a way to share the gospel in an effective, patient, and loving manner. We must approach evangelism
with the thought that the same grace we need daily is the same grace others need as well.

The Gospel Message
COLLAPSE
What are various ways the gospel message is perceived in our culture?
There are many ways that people view the gospel. Really it comes down to whether a person believes it, doesnt believe it or they are
sure yet if they believe it or not. Typically, the people that do not believe in the gospel see it as more of just a story or they think Jesus was
just a man acting like the Messiah. Believers of the gospel either are Christians or are people that believe that the crucifixion happened but
have not committed themselves to a relationship with Christ yet. Lastly, there are people that are not quite sure whether they believe that
the gospels are fact or fiction and with more information can be swayed in either direction depending on if they talk to a believer or
non-believer.
What are some specific moral reasons people may reject the gospel message?
Some people may reject the gospel because they believe that because they are a good person, they will get to heaven. It is about the
relationship with Christ. It is stated in Matthew 7:22-23 if we come to judgment day merely on works and have not had a relationship with
Jesus Christ, he will say that He does not me and turn me away. (American Standard Version Bible. 1995) Others may have been raised in a
different religion and therefore they might not believe in the gospels.
What are some specific emotional reasons people may reject the gospel message?
An emotional reason one might reject the gospel is that they feel like God has not done anything for them and they dont want to
depend on a God that lets bad things happen. Another reason may be that the person doesnt feel worthy enough. They look at what Jesus
went through, and they are afraid of rejection so its easier to just brush it off as that it was not meant for them than to find rejection later down the road. But the Bible tells us that we are worthy, and He died for WHOEVER believes in him. (American Standard Version Bible. 1995,
John 3:16)
What are some specific intellectual reasons people may reject the gospel message?
There can be various reasons that a person may reject the gospel. There is really no scientific way to prove that Jesus is Gods son
other than what the bible says in Luke 1:35 when the angel tells Mary that the baby is the son of God. (American Standard Version Bible. 1995) Also, if a person believes in something other than creation, such as evolution or the big bang theory, they will reject the gospels.
What can Christians do to address these objections and better communicate the gospel message?
I think that living like Christ and letting people see that is a very outward expression that can show who Christ is. As Christians, we need to
know the Bible and our God so that we can talk through the different rejections. (American Standard Version Bible. 1995, Proverbs 30:5) Just
having a simple conversation can plant seeds of curiosity and hope for their soul.
