In a thoughtful essay, analyze a SINGLE issue facing college students. Select an issue that has some level of complexity–tuition costs, time management, family and employment conflicts, etc.–to examine. Do not address multiple issues–pick one and examine it critically using multiple methods of development and support. The essay’s thesis must concisely and explicitly name the issue.
Employ a variety of the appropriate strategies to support your argument. Carefully read about the organization strategies on pages 85 and 86 (cause/effect, classification, comparison/contrast, definition, examples, etc.) identified in chapter four of Anatomy of an Essay. You may want to select one of those methods as a frame–comparison and contrast; cause and effect, etc.–for the essay.
Your essay must adhere to MLA format rules, including those rules for margins, headers–running and first page–and spacing. Source material must be cited (in-text parenthetical citation and full works cited entry) according to MLA (8th edition) documentation guidelines. Please consult chapter six of Anatomy of an Essay for some MLA assistance. For a complete discussion of MLA, go to Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL).
DO NOT USE MORE THAN TWO OUTSIDE SOURCES TO WRITE THIS ESSAY. YOU MUST USE ONE SOURCE. Essays with more than TWO sources on their works cited page will receive a zero.
