Action Pathways, Inc. is a member of the North Carolina Community Action Association along with multiple stakeholders within the North Carolina Better Medicaid Coalition  (NCBM), consensus-based group of organizations committed to building a better Medicaid system that improves access, quality, outcomes and affordability in North Carolina. Including patient advocates, community-based organizations, health care leaders, health plans and others who are champions of Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care (Johnson City Press, 2021).

Beginning July 1st 2021, North Carolina is moving to a Managed Care model will impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of Medicaid eligible individuals that will increase access to the whole-person, high-quality health care and bringing savings to the state budget. The ability of managed care to improve access to preventive health and wellness programs and incentivize providers to help patients achieve long-term health and Community Action Agencies such as Action Pathways will have the responsibility to ensure all eligible individuals are aware of the importance of Medicaid Managed Care to improve access to preventive health and wellness programs and incentivize providers to help patients achieve long-term health (Johnson City Press, 2021).

 The transformation’s focus on improving access to preventive health and wellness programs, and 68% support its potential to drive down long-term health care costs improving access to care for North Carolina’s most vulnerable. And the need for statewide leaders to raise awareness of this transformation which will improve health care delivery in North Carolina while driving down long-term health costs (Johnson City Press, 2021).
