You will be working as an Individual to create aninformative PowerPoint presentation over the History of Mental Illness.
You should go back as far as you can in historyto find recordings of mental illness (At least 3000BC). When possibleexplain what era or people group or culture you are referencing.
How was mental Illness defined?
What behaviors were considered abnormal?
How did people explain the causation of MI?
Who would people go to seek help and or treatment for mentaldisorders?
What kinds of explanations, treatments, or medicines were used? Whywere these preferred methods at this time? How did the explanation of causationinfluence the treatment used?
How were people with mental Illness viewed and treated insociety? Were they seen as cursed,sinful, possessed, sick, and fragile? What would life have been like being amental illness patient?
Go into detail explaining how the treatments werecreated and used, and why people believed they were effective.
Each project should have all sources cited at theend of their PowerPoint using APA guidelines.
The minimum amount of slides is 40. Slides should notbe filled with words that are difficult to read or understand the information.Please think about what you like to see on a slide when youre in the audience.Think about how much is too much? Is this overwhelming to look at? This willinclude your reference slides.
Complete projects will address the questionsabout and demonstrate that the group spent time researching, thinking, andsupporting their ideas. Illustrations, pictures, videos to demonstrate yourideas are encouraged!
PowerPoints should show the growth and scientificunderstanding of the brain and behavior as time progresses and should discussmajor laws, research breakthroughs, and technological inventions that have ledto this understanding. Hint: One you get in the 1900s things changerapidly!!!
Grades will be determined as follows:
80% Content: Were the questions and directions onrubric addressed?
10% Style: Is the information easy to understand? Isit visually appealing? Does the content flow in a logical manner.
10% Format: Are references listed in APA format.Are all sources including pictures, videos, content cited?
You need to cover the dates of 3000 B.C. to the current day. Theslide count I gave you is the Minimum count, to earn an A you will have moreslides than the minimum. You can go online and look up timelines for the history ofmental health. There are many good ones online. You can use any online sources,but please do not use Wikipedia for your information. The timeline is fine- butgo elsewhere for information about that time, era, etc.
You need to cite all information, pictures, sources you use.Pictures should be cited on the actual slide. The rest of the informationshould be on your reference page. You need to use APA Ed 7 as a format.
In the early years 5000-3000 BC you will cover many years,1000 at a time. By the time you get to the 1700s, there are many dates and youwill have main groups of information. When you get to the 1900’s theinformation goes by decades and from the 1940s to the current things can change bythe year. Look for laws that are implemented, medications that are used anddiscovered. Make sure you follow the rubric I provided and try to answer allthe questions I gave you for each main area.
