Health Literacy is the ability for an individual to be informed about the importance of being healthy as weil as the person being able to use the information to make well-informed decisions regarding their health. For an example if a person has diabetes and is not educated on what is appropriate for their diet, the individual will just eat anything and could make their sugar spike up or if they are hypoglycemic they may not be eating enough sugar. Diabetes can cause many problems for a person who is not educated on the importance of eating correctly. According to Rudd and Chan (2021), it is "the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.”

Health literacy is the ability for one person to understand the basic health information. There are two types of health literacy. There is personal health literacy which is the ability to make health related decision . The second one is called organizational health literacy which is the ability for an organization to make health related decision. I think health literacy is important because it helps the organization and the patient gather information and know which information is useful and which one is not. Without health literacy it is hard for a person to understand what is going on with them and make a decision that benefits there health. I think health literacy benefits all we need to make sure everyone understands what is going on with there own health. Without health literacy a person or organization cannot make a well informed decision. We do not want a person or organization making decision just to have an answer. We want them to be educated in every way possible.

Health literacy is the skill and knowledge of a person to access, understand and use the information to make decisions, and take action about health care. Health literacy is the ability to obtain, read, understand, and use health care information to make appropriate health decisions by good communication with the patient in the local language so that it can be easily understood. Health literacy can help us prevent health problems and protect our health, as well. It is skills that allow patients to take control of the own well-being by making smart health care choices, improving their communication with doctors giving them the information they need to advocate for themselves in a medical setting. Without, Health literacy patients can suffer real consequences.

Health literacy is the ability to learn and apply what the patient has learned about their health condition to their life. It not only has to do with reading about the condition but complete understanding. I watched a video on Health literacy and it brought on some understanding of why some of my own providers repeat and multiple questions about my treatment regimen. It is important for the provider to make sure the patient truly understands their diagnosis and treatment plan, including how to take medications. A lot of Americans read at a grade school level and the paperwork and information their receive is college-level reading material. when a person can not read and understand they move onto desperate measures sometimes like memorizing medications by colors and size, even the tiny numbers on some medication. This can help sometimes but what if you have two green pills. Thid process is a huge risk. I think it is a part of the providers duty to identify and assist anyone that shows any signs of confusion with their care from medication to diagnosis and treatment.
