These days, its virtually impossible not to use or at least be aware of the myriad of social networking sites.  Certainly, these sites have opened the doors to worldwide communication and a feeling of connectivity to others.  On the other hand, social networking sites may also contribute to a sense of isolation and an increase in loneliness across the age spectrum for both young and old. 

Question:  How, specifically, do social networking sites contribute to a sense of isolation and an increase in feelings of loneliness?  Do you believe the benefits of social networking sites outweigh the negative aspects?  Should there be a minimum age requirement to use social networking sites?  Why or why not?  What special problems have social networking sites created?  Be sure to fully explain your answer, using examples (which can include those from your own life if you want to share) and additional sources, as necessary, to support your discussion.
