Relationship between precarious labour and gender

This assignment requires that you carry out research on the relationship between PRECARIOUS LABOUR and GENDER. The goal is not to produce an essay or a specific argument, but rather to engage in a conscious and systemic research practice. The assignment will contain two sections.
Section One:
You are to find THREE peer reviewed journal articles that address the relationship between gender and precarious labour. After you find three strong sources (you will have to look through many sources and narrow it down), you will create an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography involves creating a bibliographical entry for each of the three sources you find (see APA style sheet attached for formatting instructions), and including two pages (500 typed words) following each source. In the annotation you should include the following:
1) Give an account of the source of the article. What journal is this article found in? What discipline does it belong to, and what is its academic orientation? (For example, if you find an article in the Canadian Journal of Sociology, you would indicate that it was a Sociology journal with a focus on Canadian issues.) It is strongly recommended that you visit the journal’s website and review its mission statement (“about this journal”) in order to identify its theoretical and ideological orientation.
2) Write a brief summary of the argument presented in the article. This will involve you first reading the article, and then articulating its core argument. DO NOT copy the abstract or only include information from the introduction. You should cite directly from the body of the article at least once.
3) Explain how this article would be useful for an essay on precarious labour and gender. How would it contribute to your work? Does it give good empirical evidence? Does it introduce a specific theoretical approach? Does it address a particular historical or geographical instance? Does it give an account of a debate in the field? There are many possible answers to this question.

Section Two:
Write a two page personal reflection on the research you have completed and on the variety of approaches you have encountered. Which article is the most persuasive, which is the most problematic? Explain why. Was there something you were hoping to find that you did not encounter? Is there a difficulty with the research process that you hope to remedy in the future? This section should be 400-500 words in length.
