Collaborative Solutions across Disciplines

How has your major (Studio Art Illustration) helped biologists solve a biological problem? You may use any of the
course topics discussed as a starting point or other biological topics not covered in this course.
Write a written essay detailing the biological problem and
the solution or potential solution from those in your field.
Formatting
– Name and course #
– A good informative title (NOT “Final Project Essay”)
– Natural flow/progression of ideas with sound paragraph structure
5 Grammar & Writing Mechanics
– Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation
– Good sentence structure with no fragments (incomplete sentences), etc.
– Formal and appropriate language (no contractions – won’t, etc.), or slang
25 Introduction
– Relevant background information on your topic: clearly describe the
problem posed to society
– Provide supporting documentation by discussing and citing appropriate
references to the topic or problem (i.e., a publication or article – can be
non-scientific – providing the reader with more information)
25 Develop your Essay
– How does your major address the biological problem you describe?
– Develop a logical supporting argument using at least 3 supporting points
– Provide supporting documentation by citing appropriate references to the
topic or problem (see above)
25 Conclusions
– What is most important about this topic — what do you want the reader to
understand?
– Well written – demonstrates clear understanding of the biological problem
and how the student’s major or field of study offers a solution
– Provide supporting documentation by citing appropriate references to the
topic or problem (see above)
15 Literature Cited
– At least 4 relevant sources used – sources can be non-scientific, but they
must be related to your topic – i.e., the citation should refer the reader (me)
to an outside source where I can learn more about the problem and/or
solution
– Sources cited properly in-text (author’s last name, year of publication; or
key word, year of publication) and in the literature cited section
– do NOT use quotes from sources
