Why intrapreneurship is important

In groups, students will complete a Case Study of an Intrapreneurial organization that includes an interview with an intrapreneur from that organization. The focus will be the characteristics and strategy of disruptive organizations and teams, in particular, the 4 trends outlined in chapter 1 of the book Intrapreneurship and the “3P’s” (people, processes and philosophies) as covered in chapters 7-10 of the book The Innovators DNA. The overall goal is to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of how course concepts are applied in a specific organization. There should be numerous references to the text and other resources.

A. Identify the interviewee – Name, job title, company and industry background (3 marks)

B. Company profile – Name of company, industry description, history of company, growth of company, overview of strategic plan (including SWOT) (5 marks; 1.5-2 pages)

C. Why intrapreneurship is important now – 4 converging trends, as outlined in Intapreneurship, that are putting great pressure on firms regarding how they manage ideas and innovation within their organization:

Decentralization of ideas

Empowering the front lines

User driven innovation

The digital generation

Clearly explain what each trend is and how it is impacting this organization and others in its industry. (20 marks; 4-5 pages)

D. The areas of focus for an organization that is trying to increase its innovation capabilities are:

Process

Philosophies

Based on the course resources, in particular The Innovators DNA, clearly explain what each of these “3 P’s “ mean in general and then explain how each “P” is approached in the organization. (15 marks3-4 pages)

E. Summary of key findings and 2 strategic recommendations for the organization that would increase their innovation capabilities. (12 marks; 2-3 pages)
