When researchers record the folklore, legends and myths of different cultures

From my perspective, I think Sedaris’ article on NPR is folklore for mainly two reasons. First of all, the characters created in his stories are original. This means that these characters are not fake and the stories do not belong to fakelore. Apart from this, it is more like a folk tale because it meets most of the requirements for a folk tale. For example, the stories have many necessary elements such as setting, characters, and a problem. In Sedaris’ article, the characters are usually flat with an obvious feature. For example, there is a problem in the story. In the article on NPR, it is said that “A great horned owl who has lost his lifemate finds comfort in filling the hole she has left by gathering information”. Based on all these reasons, I think his story is a folktale. All these elements matter to form a good folktale. Also, folktales usually are much better than faketale.

In his stories, different animals present different characters and human weaknesses such as selfishness, love, and others. The audience might be both children and adults. I make this judgment based on two reasons. First of all, the characters in the stories are animated. This means that the author might want to attract the attention of children as it is like a children’s literature. The words used are simple and easy to be understood in the meantime. However, second, the audience could also be adults because adults could easily figure out the characteristics of the characters in the stories. This is important. Therefore, the audiences could be both children and adults from my perspective. Many children’s literatures have deep meanings. When adults are reading them, they could know the meanings behind the plot. Therefore, some children’s literatures are also available for adults.
Legends, myths and folk tales all carry fiction and fantasy stories. However, there are traces of primitive concepts in the imaginary content of folk stories, but myths mostly summarize the understanding and concepts of primitive humans. The characters and plots of folk tales are rarely attached to specific things. Even if folk tales are related to certain things, the basic characteristics of the content of folk tales are different from the life characteristics of legends. Folktales are mostly used for entertainment. When researchers record the folklore, legends and myths of different cultures, the types of stories may be mixed, and there will be differences in the version of the story in each place. Incorrect narrative angle, over-deduction, improper use of language and other issues. The collection and sorting of folk literature requires rigorous and scientific work. In order to reduce these situations, researchers need to learn a wealth of folk literature knowledge. NPR’s article is about describing some animals as human beings, giving human thoughts, feelings, or actions, giving people a clear impression and specific feelings. Each character in the story has obvious personality characteristics. These stories are another kind of stories because they are somewhat different from folk stories. Sedari’s article is a fable. when it says he doesn’t need to “spell out explicit morals, this is because his work is biased towards satirical literature. It uses the image of animals to mock the shortcomings of humans and personifies the animals. Spelling it out does not help. Through his article The content knows that his audience is biased towards adults. People of all ages need morality, but people of different ages have different levels of understanding of morality. It is still too early for minors to read his works. They can’t experience it deeply. The meaning of the work is intended to express. And there will be intrigues, scheming, intriguing plots in the story that are not suitable for children. Most minors can’t tell right from wrong and easily affect children. Seidari’s article expresses metaphorical stories. Significant truths are often ironic or persuasive in nature, using false stories or anthropomorphic methods to illustrate a truth or lesson.
