Windows ME is an update to Windows 95. Both Windows 98 and Windows ME are best considered updates to Windows 95. Most of the enhancements that make up Windows ME are directed toward the home rather than business user. Warner, P. D. (2001). Advice is to stick with Windows 98 or consider Windows 2000 (now that the service release has been issued); the benefits of ME for the business user are not worthwhile. If you need better security, reliability, and networking features than Windows 98 offers, 2000 is a better choice than ME. Still, those users that have bought a new computer with Windows ME preinstalled should keep it.
What does Windows ME provide? Some internal changes and extensive multimedia improvements aimed at the home user. Some of the internal improvements have been borrowed from Windows 2000.
The improvements relating to protecting the Windows ME environment, referred to by Microsoft as PC Health, include—
* system file protection
* help center and automated support
* system restore.
OTHER FEATURES
Improved setup process. Fewer screens were required to install the Windows ME update. According to a review by Warner, P. D. (2001). Windows 98 Internet setup was not affected by ME; upgrading to 98 had required reinstalling the Internet setup. Warner, P. D. (2001).
Auto Update. This feature recognizes when a user is online and uses moments when the modem is not active to download system updates unobtrusively. Auto Update stops the download whenever an application requires the modem and continues it whenever the modem becomes available. Auto Update informs the user when the download has finished so that the update can be installed. Warner, P. D. (2001).
Real Mode. Windows ME removed “Real Mode” legacy code, which was the older environment in which MS-DOS-based programs ran. That is, users can no longer boot into or restart in DOS, although the DOS prompt still exists in the Programs menu. Device drivers or memory-resident programs loaded by Autoexec.bat or Config.sys must be loaded in other ways. Microsoft claims that DOS-based programs will run more reliability than under Windows 98. Time will tell. Warner, P. D. (2001).
USB support. USB and Windows 98 did not get along well; Windows ME claims improved USB support. This reviewer uses a USB printer and had to allow the computer to boot up completely before turning on the printer; this is no longer necessary with ME. Warner, P. D. (2001).
CONS
Windows ME operating system
(i) The product quality is very low.
(ii) Most probably there is no proper quality check in this OS that makes the OS with full of Bugs.
(iii) This version of windows badly effects the Microsoft reputation.

(iv) The enterprise applications are not properly supported this makes this version of Windows Not useful.
(v) But due to rush to market launch this version is quite popular but at the same time this will become a bane for Microsoft.
(vi) Microsoft took years to regain his respect back.

Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, popularly known as Windows ME, is an operation system released by Microsoft on June 19, 2000. It is an upgrade for Windows 98 and includes additional fixes, support and applications and focus on multimedia support, usability and stability, home networking, and Internet support.
Many reviews has pointed out that Windows Me is considered one of the worst operating systems of all time, due to speed and stability issues, along with hardware compatibility issues, its removal of real mode DOS support and new applications / software started refusing to install on it.
Some of the Windows ME features include
• Revert to backup of computer – Restore system files to an early copy in case files became corrupted or deleted.
• Protect important system files – Protect important system files and prevents these files to be modified by any other software.
• Movie editor – Allows users to edit and combine Microsoft movie files. Importing movies requires additional hardware.
• Windows Media Player – Includes Windows Media Player 7, which enables users a more advanced way of listening and organizing their media files.
Despite the negativity Windows ME was known for, it possess some features that some end user consider a plus and it includes
• Offer far greater hardware and software compatibility than Windows 2000
• It requires far fewer resources than Windows 2000, so it will run on less powerful machines with less RAM
• Windows Me comes out of hibernation and standby much more quickly than Windows 2000.
