Hello Class,
Business enablers can be understood to be internal entrepreneurs or free-thinking agents, adding an element of innovation to companies and a wider, more interdisciplinary influence. It would be my opinion that this type of role isn’t for everyone, as it would usually come with greater accountability. This points to another consideration, that the effectiveness of an IT staff to adapt in the instance of new leadership or business practices could be equated to the performance of security administration. The ISO 27001 is in many ways considered to be a business decision. It’s not only a proven risk-based approach to data security, it’s as well a brand that can be sold to investors, clients, and the global market (Irwin, 2020). It’s important to also consider the idea that leadership comes in many styles which would include more subtle approaches to innovation and policy changes. In any case, there would need to be some mutual understanding that it requires training and skill to effectively lead and take risks for change. Some of the time, these changes may not yield what was hoped for or may even result in complications. And that in itself is the value of the position, having an individual that is experienced enough to make the engagement between IT and business a beneficial partnership. To consider positions such as a CISO, in which leadership from IT would need to work with a management coordinator and liaison presents many opportunities to present individual approaches. I like to think that having a strong communications skillset could bridge the gap of an inexperienced CISO to an effective one. It should be added that many technical details of operations that are not risen to a level of concern or required to know by a CISO would be perhaps of interest at a later date if its impact were to affect business concerns.

Business enables can come in a variety of different forms, but most of which they are known as people who may come off as radically thinking, a bit more free of mind and able to think outside the box when it comes to most ideas, especially in a field that they have chosen to study or involve themselves in. But when it comes to these subject matter experts, especially ones that are creating something new in that field and beyond they must be capable of teaching their ideas, and assuming the risks that can come with others adopting these ideas for their businesses as well.
What can this kind of thing mean for those in a business and IT world? Well for IT and security it could mean placing a greater risk on not being as prepared as you may be due to trying an unproven or risky approach to an idea. Though if it pays off it may work even better than it had before. This can also assume a lot of new costs.
