Explain how physical access controls (e.g., card access control systems, network controlled man traps, motion sensors, digital camera feeds, and similar digitized security components) can overwhelm an IT staff. Support your rationale.

Good evening Everyone.
Avigilon stated in a white paper that physical access control systems have traditionally been designed without invention of IT. (Avigilon, 2019) In my past career, Security was a self-autonomy department that never requested IT to assists with their security design. In my current workplace, more restrictive departments, such as pharmacy, have their own security department – separate from the facility security. These specialty securities have their own subnet within the organization’s network and network administration to manage this network.
If Security does works with IT, the security application would need static IP address for each security devices. Security will only allow their system administrator to management and monitor the system and the packet traffic would be minimal because the packet information would be compress for digital video and the other devices would only transmit when there is activity. John Kirtland described the benefits of using IP security devices”
“A further key benefit will be the advanced IP knowledge that these new breed of resellers will gain and they will provide an important bridge between the world of security and the world of IT. That bridge is key and has more often than not been a major stumbling block to success.” (Kirtland, 2009)
There will be a time that cooperation between Security and IT would develop a sound security system. However Security needs change their brief of trusting no one and stop isolating themselves from the rest of the organization. This needs to happen in order for IT standards will be allow in the Security environment. John Kirtland continued to say:
“The issues here are trust and understanding – from both sides of the divide. My experience from the security team’s point of view is that they don’t see the IT department as reliable enough as, unlike security, it doesn’t operate 24/7 which is clearly essential for effective security.” (Kirtland, 2009)

Good morning Professor and classmates,
Physical controls can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes depending on what the business feels they will need in order to stay secure. There are a number of threats that can come from within the company and also outside inside the company can be tough to mitigate because you never know who or in what shape the threat will take the form of. But with proper access controls in place you can mitigate the damage done because that employee wont have access to the entire system.
But having all of these physical security options in place can overwhelm IT staff. If you have multiple cameras watching the outside and inside areas of the business, card reader places, electronic doors that unlock at certain times or under special conditions. And everything else that can be tied into all the security, all this has to be tied into the system and each piece added can effect the others in some way. With that being said all that data coming in, and the setup for the security system can mean that the IT staff doesn’t know all that there is to do to set them up and deal with the influx of information.
