Please also discuss what organizations can do to combat these threats.

For this assignment, you will be analyzing an industry that you chose (see below) from EITHER an external or internal (insider) threat perspective.

To complete this assignment, you will want to draw upon the information you learned in the text (see pgs 25-40) “Garcia, Mary Lynn, 2008. The Design and Evaluation of Physical Protection Systems, Burlington, MA, Butterworth-Heinemann”, among others) and you will also want to conduct outside research to supplement your knowledge about external/insider threats.

Potential industries for analysis include:

Financial services

Industrial & manufacturing

Energy & utilities

Health & pharmaceuticals

Technology & software

Retail

Hospitality

Consumer products

Education & research

Communications

Transportation

Entertainment & media

For the industry you select, please review their potential external or internal threats from the following perspectives:

The Technological Factor- How is technology a threat to this industry? What opportunities exist for outsiders or insiders to exploit in this industry?

The Human Factor- How do humans contribute to the external or insider threat in this industry? What are the weaknesses they can exploit? [Hint: Consider actions that are both intentional, and unintentional.]

The Organizational Factor- How to organizations contribute to the external or insider threat (both overtly, and inadvertently). Examples: Access to information, internal policies, inadequate training, intense working conditions, weak management and/or oversight, etc.

Please also discuss what organizations can do to combat these threats.
