n this assignment paper, I will examine the causes and consequences of the current dispute between Qatar and other members of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). My research question is: what are the root causes of the dispute and how it is affecting United States’ interests in the region. My hypothesis is that the dispute arises from old royal families’ feuds in the region and the GCC members’ attempts to curb Qatar’s growing influence and relationship with Turkey in the region. I also hypothesize that the Qatar’s blockages imposed by the GCC members and some other Arab countries, and the United States’ lack of active role to resolve the dispute or its siding with one part will lead to the expansion of turkey, Iran and Russia’s influence in the region.
