Discuss the ethics of implementing policy that you know will cause harm to users or customers. How can policies be updated to be relevant as the technology landscape changes? Explain.

First off there should never be a workplace policy that is designed to cause harm to users or customers. This at its very core is unethical and I would think illegal. Policies designed around unethical behavior can cause organizations to lose credibility, declination in morale and productivity, and result in legal fines and financial losses (Bowes, 2020).
As the technology landscape changes, organizations are likely to adopt these new technologies in order to achieve a business goal more efficiently. As we have learned, with the implementation of new technologies, risk assessments should be conducted in order to identify the risk. Identifying the risk leads to two outcomes, either accepting the risk as it is or implementing some sort of control to mitigate the risk. With an implementation of a control, a policy needs to be written up. Policies are made up of procedures that define how IT is used within the business. These procedures are made up of processes. With this being said, if an organization chooses to adopt new technologies in order to conduct business, the end result will be a change in policy, if the correct assessment is conducted.
