Explanation of the writing style used

Directions:

Choose an issue related to ethics or law in cyberspace. Issues, by their nature, have conflicting or unclear resolutions, lacking universal agreement on what is right or wrong in all situations. Collect information related to your issue. Explore contrasting or opposing viewpoints. Use a variety of sources. For this project you will format a research paper, in Word, using APA.

Content must include:

• Identify the ethical or legal topic you researched

• Describe what makes it an issue

• Present a balanced analysis of the contrasting and/or opposing views

• Explanation of your profession’s prescribed writing style, resources used, and how you interpreted the style for this project

• Resources used must include one or more from each of the following:

o professional journal

o popular press

o official (government) web site

o course textbook

o partisan web site

o class discussion post/entry

o web log

Format must include:

• Header with Page Numbering

• Page Layout (Font, Line Spacing, Margins) appropriate for your profession’s style guide

• In-text citations and reference list appropriate for the source and for the style guide used

• Sections

1. Introduction to your issue

2. Contrasting and/or opposing views

3. Analysis of views

4. Proposed issue resolution

5. Explanation of style guide used

6. Reference List

Submit Your Paper

Save your file with your last name, first initial and “ResearchProject” (i.e., JonesP-ResearchProject.doc)

Submit your completed paper using MS Word or Google Docs to your instructor using the Assignment tool.

Grading Criteria for Project

Content – 50%

_/5 points – Topic clearly identified and referenced throughout

_/10 points – Informed opinion includes synthesis of information explaining what makes the topic an issue

_/20 points – Balanced analysis of the contrasting and/or opposing views, with proposed resolution

_/5 points – Explanation of the writing style used, including resources used and how the style was interpreted for this project

_/10 points – Resources representative of:

• professional journal

• popular press

• official (government) web site

• course textbook

• partisan web site

• class discussion post/entry

• web log

Format Style – 50%

_/10 points – Professional writing style, essentially free of spelling and grammar errors

_/10 points – Style-specific page layout followed consistently

_/10 points – Clear, logical flow of information, with sections clearly identifiable

_/10 points – Resources cited throughout text, appropriate for style

_/10 points – Reference list complete, in layout appropriate for style
