Evidence-based practice is the integration of research evidence into clinical practice for the purpose of delivering safe and quality health care to a specific patient population. In nursing, EBP is a problem-solving approach to clinical practice that empowers nurses with the capacity to provide individualized patient care that is backed by science and research (Eastern Illinois University, 2021). The importance of EBP in nursing practice cannot be overestimated; in fact, it is an essential component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN. Specifically, nurses are encouraged to take a BSN because it emphasized on EBP, which increases nurses capacity for research and application of research findings to solving the emerging health care needs and challenges across the country.
Therefore, EBP is a crucial component in the practice of a BSN prepared registered nurse because it prepares them in the various aspects of patient care, leadership and healthcare management that are evident in today’s practice. EBP empowers BSN prepared nurses to integrate technology in their practice, enhance their capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams, engage actively in health advocacy and formulation of health policies. Also, evidence-based practice is a crucial component of the practice of a BSN-prepared RN because it increases their capacity and professional readiness for taking leadership positions in hospitals and other health organizations.
One of the ways in which I will continue to integrate evidence into my practice, as well as encourage it within my work environment is active engagement or participation in health and/or nursing conferences such as the Pulsus Conference. Another way by which I can continue to integrate evidence into my practice is to engage myself in continuous learning by reading health periodicals and journals (e. g. OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, Journal for Nurse Practitioners, American Nurse Today, American Journal of Public Health etc). By attending conferences and reading nursing journals, I will stay abreast with the changes in health and nursing care and inculcate the new knowledge into practice and within my work environment.
One major obstacle that could challenge my capacity to continue to integrate evidence into practice is fatigue and/or burnout. Physical and psychological burnout can impact negatively on readiness to learn through research and participation in health conferences. To minimize the impact of burnout, I must avoid working more than is required, and I must consistently apply my proposed interventions (Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction technique) for managing burnout. Another obstacle that could challenge this plan is stakeholders’ attitude towards new knowledge from EBP literature. Engaging all stakeholders prior to integrating new knowledge can be beneficial in this regard.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is crucial in the improvement of patients care in the modern world (CHIEN, 2019). EBP encourages the use of techniques and methods backed by evidence in various sectors of nursing, such as in patient care. Use of EBP for BSN-prepared Registered Nurses assists in the application of current practices in the care of a patient and in making improvements in data collection, among other roles of nurses. Importantly, EBP is essential inpatient care as there is the use of new methods proved by evidence in place to enhance patient wellness. Secondly, in data collection and recording, which include some of the roles of a nurse, evidence are based practice assists in the utilization of new and stable methods that could enhance the proper storage of information. Due to the highly busy schedule for nurses, it is often impossible to keep up with the changing types of evidence despite positive attitudes towards its application. Besides, adequate training for nurses is necessary before implementation of new evidence as it involves the change of the model of care that nurses use. Nurses must indicate a high level of comprehension for EBPs, including the reasons behind the practice and potential areas for application of the same (Lasalle University, 2018).
