This is because the group members may be perceived as lesser beings or are known to have some tainted character. Example of such groups are mentally ill people, the poor, criminals and many others.Officers feeling more superior over the offenders has also contributed to the aggressive behaviors. In most cases, offenders are perceived to be the ‘bad’ people in the society and very few people want to be associated with them in whatever way. This makes others in the society to think of themselves as more important or superior people. This has led to a good number of the officers discriminating and being aggressive to the offenders due to their different levels in the society.
