1- you will be provided with a research question that is ready, as well as 6 sources. Your job is to first check these sources for relevance to the research question and change 1, 2, 3 or as many of them as you feel that the source is not very relevant or doesn’t serve the purpose of the research question. When you change the sources, make sure that you cover the criteria that is listed below for the resources. Sources required for the Final Project are: At least two (2) articles from a scholarly journal from the Grossmont College Library Research Databases. At least one (1) news article (not an opinion/editorial) At least one (1) government (federal, state, or local) website or data set* At least one (2) additional sources, which may be books, additional scholarly articles or some generally useful websites, if you have carefully evaluated and found enriching for your topic. All sources should be credible, relevant, trustworthy and academically sound. Also, please do not use two sources that contribute the exact same information.*IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PUBMED:Please note that scholarly articles from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/PubMed website (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/) are not government documents. This is a common source of confusion. The NIH is a government website that hosts many open source (free) medical journals which are actually peer-reviewed journals. It comes up a lot in web searches pertaining to health topics. If you include these in your sources, they will be counted as scholarly journals, NOT as government websites. Also, they will NOT count for the three (3) items you need to find in the library databases2-After that, if everything looks fine, you will annotate the sources according to the following criteriaAnnotation RequirementsWhat goes in the annotations? The annotations for each source should appear in paragraph form. Annotations should summarize the main points and also identify:a) what qualifications the authors have for writing about this topic, and/or what the authors’ primary purpose is.b) why you believe the source is a high quality, trustworthy/credible source – beyond just stating it’s from a type of web domain such as “.gov” or from a reputable publication such as The New York Times, because we will make no assumptions in this class.c) why and how the source is useful in helping you answer your research question –specifically. The answer should not be the same for all the sources (each one should contribute something unique). Each annotation should be approximately 5-7 sentences. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and purpose of the book or article. In addition to 2-3 sentences of summary, include 1-2 sentences that evaluate the authority or background of the author, consider the intended audience for whom it was written, and/or how you can be certain you have found a credible source. (This can be shown in a variety of ways: for instance, by contextualizing the author’s work, by giving his/her background, or by demonstrating the high level of scholarship in the piece through specific examples.) In another 1-2 sentences explain how this work specifically contributes to your topic. Don’t generalize – use specifics. What makes this particular article a good resource for you? How would you use it? What unique information does it provide? Be sure to explain how each item on your list provided you with new information.Do not plagiarize. Everything should be written in your own words, but you may include short quotes of specific terms or data if necessary. This is not a place for lengthy quotations. You will want to be sure to avoid plagiarism here by taking careful notes and rephrasing everything with your own words.I will be attaching a PDF document that have some information as well as examples for the annotation that the professor wants for this assignment. This will help you to be more able to this correctly if you are not very familiar with annotations. In addition I will be sharing the rubric that will help you get maximum points.
