Also, from datasheet you will find Vdrop which means the minimum voltage difference between the input and the output. If output is supposed to be 12 V the minimum voltage at the input of the regulator has to be 12V+Vdrop. On the other hand, this voltage has to be equal to Vp-Vr (the minimum voltage at the capacitor). Then you can find Vp and calculate the transformer ratio. P3.b.
