In your report, you will write on a topic related to science (e.g., general science, engineering, medicine, agriculture, etc.);compare and contrast two things (plants, animals, diseases etc.). The project steps: Step 1: Selection of the topic Choose a topic from the list given by your teacher. Narrow down or focus your topic. Step 2: Writing research questions Write 3- 4 research questions focusing on the features you would like to compare and contrast. Step 3: Finding good sources in the library and online You should find minimum 3 sources. Choose at least one academic (printed) source from a book, encyclopedia or journal. Choose reliable sources (e.g., with an author or from a reliable organization or institution). Step 4: Selecting relevant information from sources Annotate the sources and highlight relevant information. Take detailed notes. Organize ideas in an outline. Attribute ideas to your sources and write references. Step 5: Referencing Use bracketed in-text citation. Use attribution. Write up a reference list following the latest APA guidelines. Step 6: Writing the first draft of your report in class Bring your sources and notes to class. Follow the organization of compare/contrast essays. Include: in-text citations (with source numbers only), submit the draft to your teacher, type up the first draft submitted to the teacher and submit it on www.turnitin.com. Step 7: Illustrations Use one picture illustrating a point you make. Use one diagram/graph/table, etc. illustrating another point you make. Step 8: Revising the first draft and submitting the second draft Correct your mistakes based on the feedback from your teacher. Add 2 different illustrations (e.g. table, chart, picture, etc.) with captions and references. Write a reference list. Submit a soft copy to your teacher on www.turnitin.com. Give a hard copy to your teacher and/or put the same draft in your e-document. Step 9. Revising the second draft and submitting the final draft Submit a final draft on www.turnitin.com. Sign the Declaration of Originality to say that you submitted your own work. Give 2 hard copies to your teacher. Hand in your project folder including sources, outlines, notes and all drafts or finalize your e-project file. Your report will be marked by two teachers. Step 10: Presentation Your presentation is about the research topic of your report, 5-7 minutes long,primarily a speaking exercise,supported by an outline (a PowerPoint presentation, Prezi, etc.). You should include pictures or diagrams, give relevant and up-to-date information, present/talk at the level of the students (i.e., a few technical terms / supported by explanation), invite questions from the audience.
